Our Team
Joel Johnston, Founder
Joel started his trade career as a Diesel Fuel Injection Engineer before moving on to the Marine Industry. After gaining further qualifications as a Trailer Boat Systems Engineer, he moved to the UK to work as a marine engineer with responsibility for maintaining, repairing, and surveying an enormous fleet of Patrol boats, Tugs, Barges and other utility vessels.
Upon returning to New Zealand in 2017, he founded South Pacific Marine Services based on the Whangaparoa Peninsula. His vision to provide authentic customer service, and a commitment to long term reliability on the water, has been validated by the company’s ever increasing base of loyal and satisfied customers.
Joel and his wife Ali live at Gulf Harbour with their two young children and they all love exploring the gulf islands when time and tide allow.
Jeff
Jeff is a qualified Marine Systems Engineer with a long history of working on and around launches, yachts and ships.
Jeff's diverse marine experience includes a period living aboard his own vessel and also working on a cruise liner.
After hours, family time is his main priority but when the opportunity arises he is back on the water for fishing.
Hunter
Hunter is our Marine Tech in training. He has quickly built up a valuable set of skills and has developed some great experience during his time with South Pacific Marine Services.
Hunter is particularly strong in trailer-boat servicing and is becoming more knowledgeable everyday as he progresses towards his qualification as a Marine Systems Engineer.
